Director

Perry L. Miller, M.D., PhD serves as Director of the Yale Center for Medical Informatics. Dr. Miller has a PhD in Computer Science and is a Professor in Yale's Departments of Anesthesiology and Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology. Dr. Miller is a fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI). He has served on the Board of Directors of the Symposium for Computer Applications in Medical Care (SCAMC), of the American Association of Medical Systems and Informatics (AAMSI), and of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), and has served on the Program Committees of both the AAMSI and SCAMC annual conferences. He has also served as the Artificial Intelligence in Medicine Liaison to the American Association of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI).

Associate Director, YCMI & for Clinical Informatics Training

Richard N. Shiffman, MD, MCIS completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Medical Informatics at Harvard. Before entering the fellowship he worked for twelve years as a pediatrician in private practice and now serves as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Section of General Pediatrics at Yale. Dr. Shiffman earned a Master of Computer Information Systems degree. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and of the American College of Medical Informatics, and a member of the American Medical Informatics Association, the Society for Medical Decision Making, and the Association for Computing Machinery.

Associate Director for Genome Informatics Training

Mark Gerstein, PhD completed his PhD training in Biophysics at Cambridge University, England, followed by postdoctoral training at Stanford. Dr. Gerstein is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry with a joint appointment in Computer Science. He is a specialist in bioinformatics with particular interest in designing and analyzing databases of biological information especially whole genome analyses. His laboratory is already a very active, growing focus for genome informatics training at Yale.
